Ibaaku - Ndig ël
Ndig ël is a fabulous funky track of the legendary Senegalese group of the 70’s, Xalam 2. Ibaaku’s new take is the higlight of the latest cultural movement in Senegal.
As he said: - '“Melodies that bring me back to my childhood and my father who told me he had attended the Prosper Niang band on the set of a movie. And these timeless lyrics sung by the sulphurous Souleymane Faye. Words that remind us of our condition as humans, childed by mother earth and the universe.”
While concrete is growing fast on the mutant city of Dakar, the city’s cultural soul has been renewing itself through new alternative proposals for almost a decade. It is this new contemporary scene that Ibaaku calls the Neo Dakar. He has been embodying and documenting it for years on his daily radio show, on his social media platforms and through his latest and through his latest artistic projects. Neo Dakar vol.1 now takes the form of a mixtape series as a sonic manifesto of this cultural change.
